The Navy Yard Running Club (NYRC) is a diverse group of people who meet once a week for a run around the Navy Yard. The running club welcomes runners of all levels, and is made up of a mix of Navy Yard employees, neighbors from South Philly, and beyond! NYRC is led by dedicated volunteers like Brittney Paye, who loves to share her passion of running with others.

MEET BRITTNEY

The Navy Yard: Tell us a little bit about your background.

Brittney Paye: My name is Brittney Paye, I am originally from a small town called Clinton, in upstate New York. After grad school, I moved to southeast Virginia for three years, but then realized I wanted to be closer to home. Philadelphia was my answer. I currently work as a board certified behavior analyst. In my role, it is my job to make socially significant changes in the lives of children with special needs. It’s a wonderful job where I can help families and their children every day.

TNY: How did you find out about the Navy Yard Running Club? Why do you run?

BP: I live in South Philly and found the Navy Yard Running Club through Jon Lyons (the original NYRC leader) & RUN215. Running is my passion and I run because it keeps me competitive and active. Being an athlete my whole life, running has been important to stay happy and healthy.

TNY: What are some of your favorite running spots? (Besides the Navy Yard!)

BP: When I am not running through the Navy Yard, you can find me anywhere near the water. Some of my usual spots are Kelly Drive, the Schuylkill Trail, MLK Drive, and down by the Delaware River near Spruce Street Harbor Park.

TNY: Is there anything else you’d like to share?

BP: If you are looking to join the club, you can keep up with us on Instagram at @nyrc_phila! We meet every Tuesday at 5:45 pm at 12th and Constitution Avenue – rain or shine! See you soon.
