Emerged as an idea in the early 1990’s amid a national conversation about feminism, “Bring Your Child to Work Day” was originally called “Take Our Daughters to Work Day.” Founded in 1993 by Gloria Steinem and the Ms. Foundation for Women, “Take Our Daughters and Sons to Work Day” celebrates parents hosting their kids at their workplace to expand their career horizons. On Thursday, April 26, 2018 this national event was celebrated as “Bring Your Child to Work at the Navy Yard Day.” The Navy Yard hosted a series of community events geared towards providing a welcoming experience for employees and their children. We had over 500 people enjoy lunch from the food trucks, gave out more than 350 free cups of Rita’s Water Ice, provided two sold out walking adventure tours, folded hundreds of origami boats, and saw countless smiles in the bounce house. A huge thank you to Unique Industries, who provided party favors and piñatas, increasing the energy, enthusiasm, and fun at the Marine Parade Grounds! Closing out the day, Bar Amis/Pizzeria Vetri offered free afternoon pizza snacks, before each family headed home. Thank you to all the families that joined us for this afternoon of fun. Enjoy more photos from Bring Your Child to Work Day 2018 on the Navy Yard Flickr and mark your calender’s for next year’s event on Thursday, April 25, 2019!
