Last month, Rhoads Industries announced it was approved for registration with the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania and the Department of Labor to conduct a Welding Apprenticeship Program.  Founded in 1896, Rhoads is a family-owned and operated multidiscipline provider of industrial fabrication, installation, and maintenance services for commercial and government projects, headquartered at the Navy Yard.

This Apprenticeship program is a four-year competency program that consists of an initial twelve weeks intensive classroom and hands-on training for the next generation of skilled craftsmen. Participants will experience on-the-job skills application and additional classroom training over the four year program. The newly acquired Training Center inside Building 68 will serve as the home base for Rhoads’ apprenticeship participants.

To help manage the facility and its programs, Rhoads also hired a full-time Training Coordinator and a Welding Instructor.  The acquisition of Building 68 is a significant indicator of both Rhoads’ commitment to the Philadelphia market, as well as its ability to effectively add to its workforce.

Rhoads’ comprehensive welding instruction program is provided in partnership with several educational and industry organizations, including Boilermakers Local 19, The School District of Philadelphia’s Career and Technical Education (CTE) Programs, Philadelphia Works, The Commonwealth of Pennsylvania Rapid Response Program, The Community College of Philadelphia and The Collegiate Consortium for Workforce and Economic Development.
