The Navy Yard is excited to announce the installation of new electric vehicle (EV) chargers. Two additional public chargers are now available on 13th Street between Intrepid Avenue and Normandy Place and are easily identifiable by the on-street green parking spaces.
Additional chargers will be installed in the future near Rouse Boulevard & Intrepid Avenue, and 12th Street & Kitty Hawk Avenue. Our goal is to provide affordable and easily accessible charging stations to Navy Yard employees and visitors. Additional chargers are planned as demand increases.
The new chargers are classified as SAE Level 2 and will provide approximately 120 miles of range in 3 to 4 hours, depending on your EV. Please follow EV etiquette when using the chargers.
The cost for charging an EV is approximately $1.50/hour: a minimum of $0.13 per kwh to cover the cost of the electricity, and $0.75 per hour for maintaining and managing the system which is approximately $0.06 per mile. Customers can use credit cards, Apple Pay, or Google Pay to pay for charging at the station.
The chargers have been provided through a partnership between PIDC, Philadelphia’s public-private economic development corporation and master developer of the Navy Yard, and V2G Energy, LLC, a local company specializing in managing electric vehicle charging and integrating with the needs of the electric grid. NEWR Energy EVI’s project team assisted PIDC with the electric grid integration for the EV chargers. The EV chargers have energy management capabilities to assist the local transmission grid with demand management capabilities. The chargers are partly funded with a Commonwealth of Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection Department of Energy Alternative Fuels Incentive Grant (AFIG).
