Axalta Coating Systems, a leading global supplier of liquid and powder coatings, announced today that its new Global Innovation Center will be located at The Navy Yard in Philadelphia. The 175,000 square foot facility will be home to Axalta’s global research, product development, and technology initiatives and partner with the Company’s other technology centers in the Americas, Europe and Asia-Pacific.
Liberty Property Trust, which owns and manages more than 17 million square feet of office, flex and industrial space in the Greater Philadelphia region, together with its joint venture partner Synterra Partners, broke ground today on a 94,000 square foot office building, the first in Philadelphia to be designed by the world-renowned Bjarke Ingels Group. The event also featured a ribbon cutting ceremony officially opening the adjacent five-acre park, Central Green, developed in a joint investment by Liberty Property/Synterra, PIDC and the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. Alstom, a leader in smart grid and innovative utility solutions, has signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with The Pennsylvania State University to establish a global center of excellence for microgrids at The Navy Yard in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. This center, the first of its kind, will help advance the development of microgrid technologies as part of The Navy Yard’s grid modernization project. Read more

PIDC, Philadelphia’s public-private economic development corporation, announced that Environmental Construction Services, Inc. (ECSI360), United American Builders, and BFW Group have co-signed a lease to relocate each of their headquarters into a shared office space at The Navy Yard. Mayor Michael A. Nutter and PIDC joined the companies’ leaders for a ceremonial ribbon-cutting at The Navy Yard. PIDC, Philadelphia’s citywide economic development corporation, announced that The Navy Yard added 22 new companies in 2013, making it the highest single year’s growth since the conversion from a closed naval base to a mixed-use business campus. The rise brings the total number working at The Navy Yard to more than 11,000 employees and 143 companies.
